What happens to a message you send

A mail link hands the address to whatever mail app you already use. This site never sees the message: it is not a form, there is no endpoint behind it, and no third party sits between you and the reply.

Three things can run on this site. One is needed to show you the page. Analytics is optional and stays off unless you turn it on here. Advertising appears only on some articles and is covered separately below.

Strictly necessary

Serving the page, and remembering whether you chose the light or dark theme. No identifier, and nothing that leaves your device. This cannot be switched off.

Analytics

Google Analytics, used only to count visits and a few interactions with the tools. Its advertising features are switched off, and this choice covers analytics only. Google processes what it receives under its own terms.

Advertising

Some articles and guides show ads from Google AdSense; the tools, the homepage and the policy pages never do. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google shows personalised ads only with consent given through its own consent message, and where that message applies this dialog also offers a button to change your answer. Wherever you are, Google’s Ads Settings let you turn off personalised ads. The analytics choice above has no effect on ads.
